Overview
A PET film yarn with a reflective face on both sides, so the yarn still reflects when the twist turns it over. Built for structures that are open or seen from both faces.
Film core is the reason this one stays thin. Where the earlier double-side build uses a textile backing for abrasion resistance, this one keeps a film core so the yarn stays fine enough for knitting and braiding without stiffening the structure it is worked into. Different job, different carry layer.
Specification
- Code: RS-F-YR-02
- Reflective face: Double side
- Core: PET film
- Daytime colour: Grey
- Reflective coefficient: >250 cd/(lx·m²)

- Application: Woven, braided or knit into fabric or trim
Where double side changes what is possible
On an open knit the strand is visible from both faces, and a single-side yarn loses its reflective face wherever the twist turns inward — the result is a reflective line that appears and disappears down the garment. A double-side build keeps it continuous, which is what makes reflective knits and braided cord workable at all rather than a pattern of bright and dead sections.
Typical use
Open knits, braided cord, visible trim and structures where both faces of the yarn are exposed.
It is also used in knitting where the yarn passes through the machine repeatedly and a stiff build would not feed cleanly.
What to confirm before ordering
- Structure: open knit, braid or two-face trim — that is what justifies the double side.
- Finished diameter: made to order from ≥0.5 mm; give the yarn or cord size.
- Abrasion: a film core is thinner but less forgiving than a textile-backed build — state if the yarn rubs against hardware.
- Coefficient: stated at >250 cd/(lx·m²); confirm against your target.
- Daytime colour: grey as standard.
Compliance note
A narrow-format element like this is a design component, not a retroreflective material in its own right. Reflectance is measured on a flat surface, and a yarn presents a curved and interrupted face, so it is not specified against the 330 cd/(lx·m²) floor on its own.
It is normally used alongside a compliant panel rather than instead of one. If the trim is meant to contribute to a visible area, confirm the intended construction before the sample is approved.
