Face Shields

A welding mask with flip front lens and a clear face shield with yellow browguard
PPE · Face protection

Weld or splash — the barrier is different

A welding mask filters light. A face shield stops splash and particles. Neither replaces safety spectacles underneath, and neither is a respirator.

What we supply

Face protection splits by what is coming at the face. Arc light needs a filter of the right shade. Splash and particles need a clear barrier. Using one for the other is a common and expensive mistake.

Welding Mask

One mask for weld and grind

Welding Mask

RS-P-FS-01

Full coverage shell with a flip front, so the same mask covers the weld pool and the grinding that follows. The shell shields the face and neck; the lens does the filtering.

  • Full coverage shell
  • Flip front lens holder
  • Adjustable ratchet headgear
  • Replaceable clear and shade lenses

Face Shield

RS-P-FS-02

Clear full face visor on a browguard. A secondary barrier for splash and particles — it goes over safety spectacles, it does not replace them.

FAQ | Face protection questions

What a shield does and does not do.

Can a face shield be used instead of safety glasses?

No. A face shield is a secondary barrier. It does not seal at the sides and it does not protect against everything arriving at eye level, so spectacles are worn underneath.

What shade do I need for welding?

Shade follows the process and the amperage — stick at high current needs a darker filter than TIG at low current. State both at order stage; guessing a shade is how welders get arc eye.

Is an auto-darkening filter included?

Not in this build. The mask ships with a flip front and replaceable filters. Auto-darkening is a separate specification and is quoted separately.

Can the visor be replaced on its own?

Yes. Visors and lenses are consumables and are supplied separately, so a scratched visor does not mean a new shield.

Does the face shield work over a respirator?

The visor lifts clear and has room for a half mask underneath, but it is not a respirator and does not provide any respiratory protection itself.

Is it suitable for chemical splash?

Splash performance depends on the visor grade and the marking. Tell us the chemical and the exposure and the visor specification is set against it at order stage.

Can I wear prescription glasses under the welding mask?

The shell has room for glasses. If a corrected filter is needed instead, that is a different lens and is quoted on request.

How do I clean the visor without clouding it?

Warm water and mild detergent, pat dry. Solvents and dry wiping both cloud polycarbonate, and a clouded visor gets taken off — which is the actual risk.

Visors and lenses are consumables. Spares are quoted separately so the shield can be kept in service instead of being replaced when the visor scratches.

Not sure which shade or which visor?

State the process and the amperage for welding, or the splash and impact hazard for a clear visor. That sets the shade number or the visor grade.
