Overview
A welding helmet with a flip front, so the same mask covers the weld pool and the grinding that follows it. The shell shields the face and neck; the lens is the part that has to be right for the process.
Construction
- Full coverage shell with neck protection
- Flip front lens holder
- Adjustable ratchet headgear
- Replaceable clear and shade lenses
Where it fits
Arc welding and the grinding that follows. The shade number must match the process and the amperage: state both at order stage. An auto-darkening filter is a separate specification and is quoted separately.
The shade number is set by the process and the amperage
Shade is not a preference. It is selected from the welding process and the current being run, so the same welder needs a different shade at a different amperage: too light and the arc damages the eye, too dark and the operator lifts the mask to see the joint, which is worse. The flip front covers the grinding that follows a weld. The filter is a consumable, and a scratched or pitted one is replaced rather than polished, because a damaged filter scatters light exactly where the eye needs it not to.
What to confirm before ordering
- The hazard class: Impact, splash, molten metal, dust and optical radiation are separate tests. A shield for one is not a shield for another.
- For welding, the process and the amperage: Those two set the shade number. State both.
- Primary or secondary protection: A face shield is normally worn over primary eye protection. Which one the task requires is a risk-assessment decision.
- Lens coating: Anti-scratch, anti-fog or both. Fog is what makes wearers take eye protection off.
- Fit over existing eyewear: Confirm the gap between the lenses and the side coverage on a sample.
Compliance note
Eye and face protection is graded by hazard: impact at a stated velocity, splash, molten metal, dust and optical radiation are separate tests carrying separate markings. A face shield is normally a secondary barrier worn over primary eye protection, and which of the two a task requires is a decision about the task rather than about the product. The construction and the markings the build is designed to are stated here; the test evidence for the article you order is supplied on request.
