Ear defenders that fold into the headband so they can be carried in a pocket or hung on a hook. The reason folding matters is compliance: defenders that are awkward to carry get left in the locker and the ears go unprotected.

Where it fits

Folding is about being carried, because defenders in a locker protect nobody
The engineering in a folding defender is in the joint, and its purpose is behavioural: protection that fits in a pocket or hangs on a belt gets worn where noise is intermittent, and intermittent noise is exactly where defenders get left behind. Rated attenuation assumes the cushions are seated and the headband is tensioned, so the number on the packaging is a ceiling rather than a promise. Fit, hair and the arms of spectacles all reduce what actually reaches the ear.
What to confirm before ordering
- The attenuation your noise assessment requires: Use the figure your assessor worked from, not the highest number available.
- Whether it is worn with a helmet: That limits cup profile, and a fouled harness means the helmet sits wrong.
- Whether communication or level-dependent function is needed: It changes the product class entirely.
- Cushion replacement interval: Cushions are the wearable part; a hardened cushion leaks sound.
- Whether the wearer also wears spectacles: Temple arms break the seal, and that is not visible in a rating.
Compliance note
Ear defenders are rated by attenuation, and attenuation is measured on a test fixture with the cushions properly seated - which is not how they are worn at the end of a shift. The rated figure is therefore a ceiling: fit, hair, spectacle arms and a hard hat all reduce what reaches the ear.
