What we supply

A photoluminescent fabric stores light while it is exposed and releases it as a glow once the light goes. That is a different mechanism from reflection: reflection needs a light aimed at the surface, glow does not. It is why glow fabric is specified for tunnels, stairwells, power-cut scenarios and stage work, where there may be no light to return. The three builds below differ in whether the glow covers the panel, shares the surface with a rainbow reflection, or is printed as artwork.

Glow-in-the-Dark Fabric (Full Luminous)

The whole panel glows

Glow-in-the-Dark Fabric (Full Luminous)

RS-F-FB-06

The entire surface is photoluminescent, so a cut panel glows edge to edge rather than in a printed shape. This is the build used when the marking itself has to be visible with the lights off.

  • Full surface photoluminescent, no print required
  • Polyester textile base, 140 cm wide
  • Yellow-green afterglow as standard
  • Sewn, heat applied or laminated
  • Suits tunnels, stairwells, bags and stage work

Glow and Rainbow Reflective Fabric

Two effects, one surface

Glow and Rainbow Reflective Fabric

RS-F-FB-07

Dark grey in daylight, rainbow under a light, green with the light off. One panel covers both a torch beam and a power cut, which is what makes it useful on event and night-work garments.

  • Rainbow retro-reflection plus green afterglow
  • Dark grey daytime appearance
  • 140 cm wide, soft hand
  • Suitable for event, cycling and childrenswear
  • Sewn or heat applied

Glow-in-the-Dark Printed Reflective Fabric

The artwork glows

Glow-in-the-Dark Printed Reflective Fabric

RS-F-FB-08

Only the printed areas glow, so a logo, a graphic or a pattern carries the effect instead of the whole panel. The base stays a normal textile in daylight.

  • Customer artwork printed to glow
  • Base cloth remains a normal textile by day
  • 140 cm wide
  • Vector artwork to the print specification
  • Suits branded safety, streetwear and promotional work

Other formats in the glow family

The same photoluminescent chemistry is supplied as tape, trim and film, for projects where a full fabric panel is not the right build. All formats can be quoted on the same lead time.

FAQ | Glow-in-the-dark fabric

What buyers ask before specifying photoluminescent fabric — how it differs from reflective, how long it holds a charge, and what a realistic test looks like.

How is glow fabric different from reflective fabric?

Reflective fabric returns light that is aimed at it, so it is only visible when something lights it up. Glow fabric stores light while it is exposed and releases it slowly afterwards, so it is visible with no light source at all. A tunnel or a power cut needs glow; a road at night with headlights needs reflective. Many safety programmes use both on the same garment.

How long does the glow last after the light goes out?

It depends on the excitation light, how long the fabric was exposed and the pigment loading, so it is confirmed per build rather than quoted as one number. A short charge under weak light gives a short, dim afterglow; a full charge under bright light gives the longest and brightest. Tell us the lighting condition and the required duration and the build is matched to it.

What light charges the fabric?

Daylight and most artificial light will charge it, including fluorescent and LED. Bright daylight charges it fastest. The fabric does not need direct sun, but it does need to see light: a garment stored in a bag stays dark until it is exposed again.

Can glow fabric be washed?

Yes, and wash performance is confirmed per build against the wash programme supplied with the order. Abrasion and repeated industrial washing reduce afterglow over time, so for workwear the wash programme has to be named up front rather than assumed.

Is the glow colour fixed?

Yellow-green is standard because it is the brightest perceived afterglow for a given charge. Other colours are possible but read dimmer to the eye at the same pigment loading, so the trade-off is brightness against colour.

Can you print our logo so only the logo glows?

Yes. That is the printed build: artwork is printed so the photoluminescent pigment sits only in the printed areas. Supply vector artwork to the print specification, and the base cloth stays an ordinary textile in daylight.

Does glow fabric meet safety standards on its own?

Glow is a supplementary visibility aid, not a replacement for retro-reflective tape in EN 20471, ANSI 107 or CSA-Z96 garments. Those standards set requirements for retro-reflection, which glow does not provide. Glow is used where the standard allows an additional photoluminescent marking, or where the risk is loss of lighting rather than loss of driver attention.

Can we test the fabric on our own product?

Yes. Send the shell fabric, the panel and the lighting condition you are designing for. The glow build is applied to the real substrate, charged under that condition and observed over time, because afterglow changes with the base fabric and the print.

Glow and reflective performance are quoted per build. Afterglow is confirmed against the excitation source and pigment loading supplied with the order. Printed builds use customer artwork to a supplied print specification. Test documentation is confirmed with the quotation.

Send the garment and the lighting condition.

Tell us where the panel sits, what light it sees, and how long it has to glow, and the answer comes back with the build and a price.
