Safety Helmets

Two red safety helmets, a fibreglass shell and an ABS shell, side by side
PPE · Head protection

Two shells, two reasons

ABS and fibreglass are not good and better. They are for different conditions: one is the general purpose shell, the other is for heat and for sites that will not accept a thermoplastic.

What we supply

The shell takes the impact; the harness decides whether the neck survives it. Both matter, and both are specified separately. The two builds here differ in the shell material, which is what decides where each one is appropriate.

ABS Safety Helmet

The general purpose shell

ABS Safety Helmet

RS-P-HM-01

Injection moulded ABS with a six point harness. Stiff, resistant to most industrial chemicals, and the right default unless the site names something else.

  • ABS shell with front peak
  • Six point textile harness
  • Adjustable headband
  • Replaceable sweatband

Fibreglass Safety Helmet

Holds shape under heat

Fibreglass Safety Helmet

RS-P-HM-02

Glass fibre reinforced shell with a riveted harness. It keeps its shape at temperatures that would deform a thermoplastic shell. Heavier, and that trade is deliberate.

  • Glass fibre reinforced shell
  • Riveted harness mounting
  • Adjustable headband

FAQ | Specifying a helmet

What changes between an ABS and a fibreglass shell.

What is the difference between ABS and fibreglass helmets?

ABS is a thermoplastic: light, stiff and the general purpose choice. Fibreglass is a thermoset: heavier, and it holds its shape at temperatures where ABS would soften.

Which one should I buy?

ABS unless the site names a standard that requires a thermoset shell, or the helmet will see sustained heat. Those are the two reasons to move up to fibreglass.

How often should a helmet be replaced?

The harness ages before the shell does. Replacement intervals are set by the site or by the standard being worked to, so confirm the interval at order stage rather than assuming a fixed number of years.

Can the helmet be branded with a company logo?

Yes, subject to the standard being worked to. Marking must not be applied where it would affect the shell or cover the required certification marking — that is checked at order stage.

Does the helmet come with the harness fitted?

Yes. Harnesses and sweatbands are also supplied separately as spares, because they are the parts that wear out first.

Will a fibreglass helmet fit the same as an ABS one?

Sizing is set by the headband, not the shell, so the fit is comparable. The fibreglass shell is heavier and that is noticeable over a long shift.

Is the peak available in different lengths?

The standard front peak is shown. Longer peaks and brim variants exist in the same shell family and are quoted on request.

Can these be used for electrical work?

Not by default. Electrical performance is a separate classification with its own tests and its own marking. If the task is electrical, say so — it is a different helmet, not an option on this one.

Shells are supplied with the harness fitted. Replacement sweatbands and harnesses are available separately, because the harness is the part that ages first.

Which shell does the site require?

Tell us the standard named in the site rules and the temperature the helmet will see. That decides the shell before colour or branding come into it.
