Safety Raincoat

Worker in a hi vis rain jacket with hood up in heavy rain at night
Clothing · Safety rainwear

Rain is when visibility matters most.

Wet weather darkens everything and puts spray in the air. Three rainwear builds that keep the wearer dry without giving up the reflective signal.

What we supply

Rain and darkness arrive together, and both work against being seen: the light drops, spray scatters a headlight before it reaches the wearer, and a wet garment darkens. That is the case rainwear has to answer, and it is why the pieces here carry banding on the parts of a figure that face traffic rather than only across the chest. The other half of the job is keeping water out at the closures — a coated shell is only as waterproof as its zip flap, cuffs and seams. The three builds differ in how much of the body they cover and whether the trousers come with them.

FAQ | Safety rainwear

What buyers ask before specifying hi-vis rainwear — what waterproof actually means here, which build for which duty, and how the banding is laid out.

What does waterproof mean on these garments?

A coated shell that keeps rain out, with the closures specified to match: a flap over the zip, elasticated cuffs and seam treatment confirmed as part of the build. Water gets into rainwear at the closures long before it gets through the fabric, so the flap and the cuffs matter as much as the coating. Ratings and seam treatment are confirmed at order stage rather than claimed from a catalogue photo.

Rain jacket, rain suit or long raincoat — how do I choose?

By how much the wearer moves. A crew covering distance on foot needs the two-piece suit, because a knee-length coat restricts stride. A marshal or gatekeeper who is mostly stationary needs the long raincoat, because water running off a waist-length jacket onto the trousers is the actual failure. The jacket alone suits someone who already has waterproof trousers issued.

Why is the rain suit sold as a set rather than as separates?

So the banding lines up as a system and the fluorescent batch matches. Mixing a rain jacket with ordinary trousers leaves the lower body with neither waterproofing nor reflection, and two separate fluorescent batches read as two different yellows under a headlight.

Why put a reflective band around the ankle?

The lower leg is what a driver picks up first through spray, and it is the part a wheel arch hides. A band at the ankle also keeps a walking figure reading as a figure rather than as a bright patch, because it gives the eye a moving reference point close to the ground.

Do these replace a high-visibility vest?

Not automatically. A rain jacket covers the torso, so whether it satisfies the standard depends on the fluorescent and reflective area the garment actually carries, which is confirmed at order stage for the build. Where the requirement is a specific class, the garment is specified to that class rather than assumed to meet it because it is fluorescent.

How breathable is a coated shell?

Less than an uncoated softshell — that is the trade-off for being waterproof. For a wearer working hard in mild weather, a coated shell traps heat; that is one reason the softshell exists in this range as a separate build. If breathability is the deciding factor, say so and the shell specification is chosen against it.

Can the rainwear be branded?

Yes. Printing and heat-applied marks are specified per order with vector artwork and marked placement. Keep marks off the fluorescent panels where possible: a large mark reduces fluorescent area and can change the class of the garment.

How does it wash and dry?

Wash performance is confirmed per build against the wash programme supplied with the order. Coated fabrics need the coating protected, so abrasion and the wrong wash programme do more damage than dirt. A two-piece suit dries faster than a long coat, which matters on consecutive wet shifts.

Waterproof performance, seam treatment and the resulting standard class are confirmed at order stage for the specific build. Reflective banding returns light toward its source and does not glow on its own. Only the pieces on this page are specified as waterproof; the jackets and trousers elsewhere in the clothing range are not.
