Rainbow Reflective Fabric
A dark fabric until something shines on it.
Rainbow reflective textiles that look near-black in daylight and return a full spectrum under a light — standard, blue-purple, glow and heat transfer builds for streetwear, footwear and fashion outerwear.
What we supply
Rainbow reflective fabric is a retro-reflective surface tuned to return light in a spectrum instead of white. The practical effect is that the garment reads as an ordinary dark textile until a light hits it, which is what makes it usable in fashion where a silver panel would be too industrial. The four builds below cover two spectrums on a textile base, plus a glow variant and a heat transfer film in the same family. The two fabrics differ only in the returned spectrum: standard rainbow, and a blue-purple variant tuned for cool colour stories.

The reference build
Rainbow Reflective Fabric
RS-F-FB-09
Near-black in daylight, full spectrum under a light. This is the build used when the reflective detail has to read as a design feature rather than a safety marking.
- Dark grey to near-black daytime face
- Full rainbow spectrum under a light
- Soft polyester base, 140 cm wide
- Sewn or heat applied
- Suits streetwear, outerwear, sneakers and bags

Cooler spectrum
Blue-Purple Rainbow Reflective Fabric
RS-F-FB-10
The same construction tuned to a blue-purple return, for programmes where the standard warm spectrum fights the garment colour.
- Blue-purple reflected spectrum
- Dark neutral daytime face
- 140 cm wide, soft hand
- Sewn or heat applied
- Suits fashion outerwear, footwear and bags

Two effects, one panel
Glow and Rainbow Reflective Fabric
RS-F-FB-07
Rainbow under a light and a green afterglow with the light off, on the same dark grey textile. The two effects answer different failures: a beam needs a surface that returns it, while a power cut needs a surface that keeps emitting on its own.
- Rainbow return under a light
- Yellow-green afterglow with the light off
- Dark grey textile face in daylight
- Polyester base, up to 140 cm wide
- Sewn or heat applied

Same spectrum, HTV workflow
Rainbow Reflective Heat Transfer Vinyl
RS-F-HT-04
The rainbow effect on a film that is cut, weeded and pressed like ordinary HTV, so the production step does not change. The film reads black on a dark liner until it is lit, which is why the proof has to be approved under a torch rather than on a screen.
- Iridescent rainbow under retroreflection
- Black film face in daylight
- PET carrier liner
- Press parameters confirmed per build
- Packed 50 m or 100 m per roll

FAQ | Rainbow reflective fabric
What buyers ask before specifying rainbow reflective fabric — daylight appearance, spectrum consistency, durability and how it differs from silver.
Why does rainbow fabric look black in daylight?
The reflective layer only returns light that comes back at the viewer along the same axis, which is what happens when a light is aimed at it. In ambient daylight there is no such source, so the surface reads as a dark grey textile. That is the intended behaviour, not a defect.
How bright is the rainbow compared with silver reflective fabric?
Silver returns the most light because it reflects across the visible spectrum evenly; a rainbow splits the return into colours, so no single wavelength is as bright. Rainbow is chosen where the colour effect matters more than maximum retro-reflectivity, and it is not a substitute for certified silver tape in a safety garment.
Is the spectrum consistent from roll to roll?
It is controlled against a reference sample approved at order stage, which is why colour matching happens at sampling rather than by describing a colour. For a multi-roll programme, keep one approved sample as the master reference.
Can rainbow fabric be washed and dry-cleaned?
Yes, and wash performance is confirmed per build against the wash programme supplied with the order. Abrasion dulls the return before the fabric itself fails, so on high-wear areas the panel geometry matters as much as the fabric.
Does it work on footwear and accessories?
Yes. It is used on sneaker panels, heel counters and bag faces. On footwear the constraint is flex rather than wash: the panel has to survive repeated bending without the reflective layer cracking, so the panel layout is part of the specification.
Can we get a matching rainbow piping or tape for the same garment?
Yes. Rainbow constructions exist as piping, tape and heat transfer film in the same spectrum family, so a garment can carry the effect as a trim instead of a panel. Specify all of them together so the spectrum batch matches.
Does the daytime dark face limit colour options?
The base is dark by construction, so light garment colours need the reflective element as a separate panel or trim rather than a full overlay. Blue-purple is available where the standard warm spectrum clashes with the garment colour.
Can we see a sample before committing?
Yes. A swatch of the approved spectrum is the normal first step, and it is also what the production run is matched against. For a full garment test, send the shell fabric and the panel so flex and bond can be checked on the real substrate.
Reflected spectrum is confirmed against the sample approved at order. Daylight appearance is dark grey to near black. Wash performance is confirmed per build against the wash programme supplied with the order. Colour matching is done at sampling stage; test documentation is confirmed with the quotation.
Send the garment colour and the light it lives under.
Tell us the garment, the lighting and the spectrum you want, and the answer comes back with the build, the sample plan and a price.
